About the Destination
Bamboo, lakes, and tigers that don't wait for dusk.
Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve is the oldest and largest national park in Maharashtra, in Chandrapur district about 140 km from Nagpur. The landscape is dense teak and bamboo cut by the Andhari river, with Tadoba lake at its heart and the Irai reservoir on its edge. Core zones are entered through Moharli, Kolara, Navegaon and others, with an extensive ring of buffer zones around them.
Tadoba's reputation is built on visibility. Its tigers are unusually relaxed around vehicles and are seen moving in full daylight far more often than in most reserves — which is why it has become the park photographers recommend to people who have been unlucky elsewhere. Sloth bears, dhole, gaur, leopards and marsh crocodiles share the same ground.
