About the Destination

Bamboo, lakes, and tigers that don't wait for dusk.

Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve is the oldest and largest national park in Maharashtra, in Chandrapur district about 140 km from Nagpur. The landscape is dense teak and bamboo cut by the Andhari river, with Tadoba lake at its heart and the Irai reservoir on its edge. Core zones are entered through Moharli, Kolara, Navegaon and others, with an extensive ring of buffer zones around them.

Tadoba's reputation is built on visibility. Its tigers are unusually relaxed around vehicles and are seen moving in full daylight far more often than in most reserves — which is why it has become the park photographers recommend to people who have been unlucky elsewhere. Sloth bears, dhole, gaur, leopards and marsh crocodiles share the same ground.

Why visit this destination

The other thing Tadoba has is water. In the dry months the lakes and waterholes concentrate everything that lives here into a small number of places, and the forest becomes far easier to read. Sit at the right waterhole in late April and the park comes to you.

Unique Propositions

  • The highest daylight sighting frequency of any reserve we run

  • Lakes and waterholes that concentrate wildlife in the dry season

  • Buffer zones that stay open when the core forests close

  • Nagpur airport under four hours away

Tadoba is the park we suggest when someone has already done a safari and come home without a sighting. Nothing is guaranteed anywhere — but if the odds are what you are optimising for, this is where they are best.
